130 Jahre vor Charles Darwin und 70 Jahre vor Alexander von Humboldt beschrieb und zeichnete die Künstlerin und Naturforscherin Merian (1647-1717) in Frankfurt und auf ihrer Forschungsreise nach Südamerika die örtliche Flora und Fauna. Auch viele eingedeutschte Tier- und Pflanzennamen  verdanken wir ihr.  Trotz ihrer wichtigen Arbeit im Bereich Kunst, Sprache und Ökologie kennen viele heute Merian vielleicht gar nicht mehr.

Hier ein lang überfälliges Portrait der Forscherin und Künstlerin.
