On Wednesday, May 29, host Pam Marvin talked with retired Air Force colonel Mickey Addison who served our country for 30 years. Mickey has developed a leadership and excellence concept called the "5 Be's" which he has also assembled into a book of the same name.
First, be proud of who you are. Everyone has something to contribute. It is crucial to see that each person possesses human dignity because they are created in the image of God. Be proud of legitimate accomplishments and talents, but authentic pride builds people up whereas counterfeit pride is a sin and tears people down.
Be free. Authentic freedom is not being a slave to your addiction. Addiction can be a type of slavery. Take pornography, for example.
Be virtuous. This is the idea of sticking to cardinal virtues, prudence justice temperance, and fortitude.
Be balanced. A human being is more than just the mind, body, or spirit. God gave us a body as a temple and we should treat it that way. Live an integrated life that honors all three aspects. That’s is what being balanced is about.
Be courageous. That points right back to fortitude. We are called to be morally and physically courageous.
