Melissa Butler | Founder and CEO, The Lip Bar

Detroit native Melissa Butler went from working on wall street to skillfully and strategically launching a start-up beauty brand, The Lip Bar, into a nationwide phenomenon.

When the Florida A & M University grad took her line of custom-made, vegan lipsticks on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in 2015, she was laughed out of the room. But the experience only further ignited her ambition to succeed. And it taught her an important lesson about persistence that would years later allow her to land The Lip Bar’s products on shelves at 142 Target stores across the country.
