WAR DOG MEMORIAL – Millford –
many thousands of dogs have been lost assisting in combat and rescue operations – more
than 4,000 dogs did not return from the Viet Nam conflict alone

USS Edson – Bay City –
Launched in 1958 - EDSON is one of the relatively few ships of the U.S. Navy named
for a United States Marine, Major General Merritt Austin Edson.
For 2 decades EDSON served as a valuable member of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, earning a
reputation as a Top Gun ship and the nickname, “The Destroyer.”
USS Silversides – Muskegon –
Silversides received twelve battle stars for World War II service and was awarded one
Presidential Unit Citation for cumulative action over four patrols. She is credited with
sinking 23 ships, the third-most of any allied World War II submarine, behind only the
USS Tang and USS Tautog.
Mission of the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is to honor the men and women of
the military, preserve military history
