Welcome! and Thank you for listening!. Today Addie Majnaric RDN joins me as we do a recap of the International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine that was held in Washington, DC. It was a great time once again at a plant based nutrition conference with my favorite dietitian. This year we were joined by my best friend from WVU medical school, Dr Crystl Whitmire and her husband Bill Whitmire. Crystl is a neurosurgeon who has been frustrated with the number of people that suffer from spinal degeneration for years despite advances in surgical techniques. She also grew up in West Virginia and currently lives in an area that still eats a high fat diet despite abundant home gardens in the middle of apple country. This conference was great for them to hear the power of plants not only for general health but the for the ability of plant based nutrition to decrease body inflammation including the spine. Healthy spines also start with good nutrition to allow adequate blood flow to the tissues and lower the inflammation in the bones, ligaments, and discs of the spine to lesson pain.
Addie and I recap our favorite lectures and will express some frustration with academics and their political correctness that hampers the message of plant based nutrition. We have to remember that the risk of eating a plant based SOS free diet are only positive. There is no long term health consequences of a colorful plant based diet from whole foods. The message we should be preaching is that this differs substantially from a vegan processed diet.
