'Good Boys', 'Blinded by the Light', 'Bernadette' and the Struggles of Smaller Movies in 2019
For what seems like the first time in quite a while, a movie that isn't the next phase in an existing franchise or the relaunch of an existing IP secured the top spot at the box office. 'Good Boys' opened strong, securing over $21 million and upending 'Hobbs and Shaw' from first place.
However, not every smaller release succeeded this week. '47 Meters Down: Uncaged', 'Blinded by the Light', and 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette' all came in under expectations, once again putting into question the financial viability of movies with lower production budgets. Nick and Brennan discuss the current state of distribution for such films, and the struggles of creating smaller content in 2019. We discuss all this and more in this week's episode of The MovieBabble Podcast!
