Dr. Peter Ndiang'ui was born and raised in a village called Mathakwaini in Central Kenya. For the first eight years of his life Kenya was under colonial rule, and during that time the local people, including his parents, were fighting for their freedom. He says his family was very poor, but there was so much love and laughter in the house, the word poor was unheard of.
He is President of the African Network of Southwest Florida, and a member of the Lee County Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee. He is also chair of the new Fort Myers Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
