Nació el 26 de junio de 1580 en Verdú, Lérida. Entró en la Compañía de Jesús con 19 años en el Noviciado de Tarragona. Estudió la Teología en Bogotá. En Nueva Cartagena, ciudad de Colombia, fue ordenado sacerdote el 20 de Marzo de 1616.En esta ciudad, durante más de cuarenta años consumió su vida con admirable abnegación y eximia caridad para con los esclavos negros, bautizando con su propia mano a casi trescientos mil de ellos.
