My favorite podcasts
This last year -my mid life crisis year – I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts! I’ve been listening to motivational podcasts, organizational podcasts, developmental podcasts, and coaching podcasts. I listen to many more – but these are my favorites right now. Not in any particular order.
Levar Burton Reads – I loved Levar Burton in Star Trek: The Next Generation – and many people knew him from his role as Kunta Kinte in Roots, or his award-winning show Reading Rainbow. In this podcast, Levar reads short fiction stories. I love listening to his voice and he really brings alive the stories he is reading.

Unfuck your brain by Kara Loewentheil – she is a master coach, certified by the Life Coach School - she’s insightful and thought provoking and while I haven’t been listening for too long, I am enjoying her podcast.

The Life Coach School Podcast by Brooke Castillo. She has made a huge difference in my journey this last year. I learned about the model – where we learn that circumstances cause our thoughts which cause our feelings and those drive our actions and in turn results. You do have to start listening from episode 1 – but it’s well worth the time and effort to listen. You will learn a lot about yourself and relationship with others.

The Brendon Show – He has a book called High Performance Habits – it’s available as audio in season 4 so I’m listening to that right now. I started listening to him about a month ago, when I signed up to attend Rachel Hollis’s Rise Business conference. He was a speaker there and very insightful. I’m enjoying his podcast and hope to start applying his formula to my life.

Rachel Hollis – Rise – She’s an entrepreneur who has made a successful social media empire. As I mentioned – I went to her Rise Business conference so I can learn more about starting and maintaining some kind of side business. Learned lots. She has authored several books, but the best-selling ones are “Girl, stop apologizing” and “Girl, Wash your face”

Organize 365 and Sunday Basket – these are two separate podcasts, but they are both done by Lisa Woodruff. She teaches you how to declutter and organize your house and she also has a paper organizing system called the Sunday Basket. The Sunday Basket works – just two weeks ago, I showed a friend how the system works. One of the slash pockets is called waiting for…. I had put some jury duty paystubs in there in case my work asked for them. Not two days later, work asked for them, and thanks to this system, I knew exactly where they were! My house is starting to become more organized though I still have a way to go.

Lost at the Smithsonian with Aasif Mandvi – this is a 10-episode series of the host going into the Smithsonian and finding 10 different things which he then explores in depth. It’s been very interesting.

By the Book – with Jolenta Greenberg and Kristen Meinzer. In this podcast the hosts choose a self-help book to read, they break it down for steps they need to follow for two weeks. They then report back on how things went and come down with recommendations on how they felt about the book. It’s pretty funny.

The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos – this is an interesting podcast. The host is a psychologist professor at Yale University. She taught a class at Yale University in January of 2018 – the class was called ‘Psychology and the Good Life. 1182 students or about 25% of Yale’s undergraduates enrolled in the course! This podcast is based on that course.

And last but not least is the Shameless Mom Academy – hosted by Sara Dean. She is one of the main reasons I started a podcast. She motivates and inspires woman to stop shrinking and start growing in their lives. She encouraged me to start the podcast, pointed me to a Facebook group, and recommended some equipment.
