No, it's not Richard Stanley's film starring Nicholas Cage, but it is by far the best adaptation that we've covered on this podcast. This low-budget, black and white German adaptation effectively conveys cosmic insignificance through the intimate lens of a family falling apart (sometimes literally) while being completely abandoned. On the one hand, it's very exciting that our sanity has been restored, but on the other hand, if this pretty-good-but-not-great film is one of the best Lovecraft adaptations out there, then that doesn't bode well for the adaptations we've yet to cover...
