The Fundraising Talent Podcast

Business:Non-Profit

#112 | Why are nonprofit organizations so resistant to change?

We had a lot of fun on this episode of the fundraising talent podcast. My guests were Michelle Gilmore and Darren Diess, authors of Eventology: the science behind nonprofit fundraising. In their book, Darren And Michelle combined the art, science, and mathematics of event fundraising in order to offer their readers a guide for executing successful events, furthering their mission, and strengthening donor relationships. They promise that readers will come away with the knowledge to create an iron-clad event plan; organize great teams; engage sponsors; and, most importantly, create memorable experiences for donors.

But don’t think that all we talked about were events. The question we bantered around was why nonprofits are so resistant to change. With that question on the table, we were all over the place; and, as you’ve come to expect, I threw them a few curve balls to keep them on their toes. It was evident that Darren and Michelle are a great team and that they enjoy working together.

Darren is a fundraising consultant, coach, and benefit auctioneer. Michelle is the Senior Development Director at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They both live with their families in sunny, Southern California which has me quite envious this week.

Once again, we are very grateful to Kelly Velasquez-Hague and our friends at OneCause for sponsoring this episode of The Fundraising Talent Podcast.
