Prov. 8:5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.
Prudence: Be crafty about it, We might say find the life hack for it.
Set your hearts on it: use it, make it your way.
Ever waste your time trying to solve a problem… only to have someone show you a quick simple solution.
I locked my keys in my car years ago at the mall. I called a police officer to come and slim jim my car. It was a female and thats cool. But she pulled up, got out and I was talking to her, she was on the other side of the car. She said “how about if we just reach in through this open window and open up the front door.
1-
Realize your success or failure is all about how you train yourself to think. Your brain is the reason you will succeed or fail- Period! NOT YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES, NOT YOUR EDUCATION OR SMARTS, NOT YOUR FAMILY, NOT YOUR LOOKS, AND NOT YOUR LUCK OR BREAKS IN LIFE…
*Be extremely careful what you put in your brain and how much of something you put in our brain.
IF YOU CAN’T TEACH IT- DON’T PUT IT IN YOUR BRAIN.
ie. if you watch a lot of ESPN, listen to a lot of sports radio, talk shows, etc… and you can’t teach it, limit it.
If it helps you grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and you can teach it. ok, then it is worth your time.
I can’t teach anyone the merits of the 85 Bears superbowl game… but I love watching it… but it is not worthy of more than a few minutes of my year.
2-
Teach yourself to respond and not react.
Practice scenarios before they ever happen. Your wife flirts with another man, your kid wrecks the car, your boss reams you out.
Think of the best way to respond that would honor God BEFORE YOU EVER GET INTO THAT SITUATION.
I have used this before on the podcast, but when I owned my gym I knew a lot of people would want me to give them a free membership. I couldn’t just wait for someone to ask me and then try to come up with something to say. So before we ever cracked our doors for members I came up with this line. I would love to give you a free membership, but I have to charge me friends because my enemies won’t do business with me.
That was the perfect response, well thought out ahead of time and people not only laughed, they understood it.
3-
Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Peter McWilliams.
PUT YOURSELF IN UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATIONS.
In powerlifting it is not unusual to put a few hundred more pounds on your back more than what you are used to and do a 1/4 squat. You literally feel your legs shaking and you are thinking do not go beyond 1/4 or you will collapse… it is painful and uncomfortable… but it prepares your body for more weight.
When you have the chance behind taking the easy way or the hard way- choose the hard way.
The military uses obstacle courses to train you. Its not easy, if they wanted more people to sign up maybe they could dumb it down a little.
But guess what - you wouldn’t be prepared. And in fact if you want to be a seal, you then have to be pushed even harder. You HAVE to get used to be comfortable being uncomfortable or you will not make it.
I know a lot of people who have never achieved their dreams… and almost always after all their excuses what it really comes down to is they were not willing to be uncomfortable doing what needed to really get done.
