We discuss Sustainability, Racial Justice, and Healthy Environments with Suzanne Shelton, president and CEO of the Shelton Group, a sustainability marketing and branding company in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Dr. Lilia Abron, president and CEO of PEER Consultants a 41-year-old environmental engineering consulting firm in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Lilia Abron, P.E., is President and CEO of PEER Consultants, the largest black, female-owned and operated, environmental engineering firm in the United States. Dr. Abron’s experience spans almost 50 years in planning, managing and directing environmental engineering programs for the improvement, maintenance and enhancement of the natural and built environments. She is the first African-American woman in the nation to earn a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and the first African-American to start an engineering consulting firm focused on the environment and its environmental issues. She was also one of the first professionals in the field to suggest and demonstrate that sustainability initiatives can rapidly advance the condition of the impoverished sector worldwide. She’s also founder of PEER Africa, an innovative design-build and sustainable development company.
