No, this isn't the prophesied episode on Dreams in the Witch-House, but did you really think we'd let the Lovecraft Country premiere to pass us by without fanfare?
Recorded just about an hour after its East Coast premiere, Jim - having read the novel - and James - having...purchased it - fawn over the premiere and express their excitement for the remaining 9 episodes. Beautifully shot, marvelously acted, and unflinching in its depictions of the monsters - both human and otherwise - of 1950's America, "Sundown" stumbles a bit as all expository pilots do, but is a fantastic introduction to the show's themes, characters, and Lovecraftian influence (and inversion).
MAJOR SPOILERS lurk ahead if you have not watched the show yet.
Be sure to also check out the Imaginary Worlds episode, "Inverting Lovecraft," for more works to check out and more information on how authors of color engage with and rework Lovecraft's influence.
