Topic: How to predict outbreaks of COVID-19 one and two weeks in advance...i.e., in "pre-symptomatic" populations... by use of commercially available behavior data. When people are getting sick, they change their behavior in statistically regular manner, starting before they have standard medical symptoms. This is currently being done in Israel and is piloting in US https://connection.mit.edu/covid-19-outbreak-week-week-prediction. These predictions can allow the outbreak to be contained, and medical systems to be better prepared.
Bio: Professor Alex 'Sandy' Pentland directs MIT Connection Science, an MIT-wide initiative, and previously helped create and direct the MIT Media Lab and the Media Lab Asia in India. He is one of the most-cited computational scientists in the world, and Forbes recently declared him one of the "7 most powerful data scientists in the world" along with Google founders and the Chief Technical Officer of the United States.
