La Madre Laura Montoya, nació el 26 de mayo de 1874 en Colombia. Sintió una llamada a trabajar con los indígenas Emberá Katíos y desde entonces dedicó el resto de su vida al apostolado y las misiones. El 14 de mayo de 1914 fundó la Congregación de Misioneras de María Inmaculada y Santa Catalina de Siena con un grupo de catequistas que la acompañaban a las misiones. Falleció en Medellín, Colombia, el 21 de octubre de 1949, tras una larga y penosa agonía y fue canonizada por el papa Francisco el 12 de mayo de 2013. Es la primera y única santa nativa colombiana.
