The Legit Sidekick and The Host with the Most are talkin' about practice. We talkin' about practice, man.
MF DOOM pulled from the world around him to create his music and persona. His attention to detail, observant nature, and constant absorption of information fueled his creativity. The concept of 10,000 hours yet again holds true. In short, it was practice.
To honor the late, great and influential MF DOOM, Episode 020 dives into the creative direction and what inspired the cover of Madvillian's–the duo of MF DOOM and Madlib–2004 album Madvillainy. We share our theory on the connection between Kanye's MBDTF and Yeezus to Madvillainy, as we detail the dots (or squares) that tie them together. We discuss how inspiration fuels the work, stealing like an artist, how essential repetition and observation is to our craft(s), MF DOOM actually being mainstream in hindsight, "putting the mask on," and the art of practice. We talkin' about practice, man. Life is just practice.
