Ep 6: Travelling the Road of Serbia’s Medieval Morava Valley Monasteries: Manasija, Ravanica, and Ljubostinja
In this episode, Kristina travels with us along the Morava Valley in Serbia, where we find some of the most beautiful Serbian medieval monasteries of the “Morava school,” as well as breathtaking natural wonders.
On the almost deserted and empty land that was the Morava Valley and neighbouring areas, there developed an art that was based on the previous experiences of Byzantine and Serbian creators, but added many new elements, particularly in architecture.
We talk about the Nemanjić dynasty who ruled Serbia for more than two centuries, and the most famous monasteries from this period: Manasija, Ravanica, and Ljubostinja.
Join us to hear how Sacha Vigeant — upon visiting these medieval Serbian monasteries --- stumbled upon haunting secrets in beautiful and peaceful places, and discovered an intangible connection with our history, and ultimately with himself.
