This interview is so rich in the breadth of the topics covered. We ALL have a story to tell. Often we take it for granted or make assumptions about people because of the mountain top they sit on. We forget that they were not placed there but undertook a journey. Talking to Liza (pronounces L-ee-za), made me realise that your life leaves breadcrumbs to your purpose.
First we talk about her family’s tumultuous displacement from their home country of Uganda during the reign of Idi Amin. That alone is a story that you should listen to.
We then explored the pros and cons of living abroad which includes; barriers in your career success, being a wife and mother and finding a balance of cultural expectations. Thereafter, concluded with a most informative conversation about how to navigate raising children, especially male children, in countries where experiencing racism is inevitable.
Liza is an international human rights lawyer. She has worked for the United Nations for 13 years in different capacities, in Geneva, Kenya and Zimbabwe. She has also worked with Save the Children Norway in Uganda, as the Program Coordinator-Social Protection - She has experience in criminal litigation and worked with an NGO in New Orleans, Louisiana (USA), handling appeals cases of people on death row.
