When life knocks you down, what do you do? Do you dust yourself off and keep moving forward, or do you curl up in a ball and give up? Adversity takes many forms and effects each person differently. What matters most is how you choose to react when adversity strikes. Let these women discuss just how they became more resilient after adversity struck....
They're all close to my heart witnessing their desire to overcome any obstacle, any adversity along their path. I've watched them grow into the amazing, inspiring women they are today
Hi, my name is Heather. Thank you to Cat for allowing me to share my story.
In October 2014 my world changed forever. My late husband Bernie woke up with a headache that increasingly got worse. After a visit to his GP and blood tests, they were none the wiser why the headaches were happening. He was sent off for a CT scan of his brain to work out the mystery.
It was this scan that showed he had 8 tumours on this brain. Further scans revealed a large tumour on his lung and smaller ones around his pituitary gland. Further testing on these tumours confirmed he had Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma. All we could tell the kids (we had 3, 12, 9 and 6) was that Daddy was in hospital to help with his headaches.
Together we spent the next 15mths trying to stop the beast. He had two back to back brain surgeries, many rounds of immunotherapy and finally as a last effort, he endured only 2 rounds of Chemo before he was declared palliative with no more options for us. This was almost 12mths to the day of finding out he had cancer.
