Over the course of the past 300+ episodes of One Hit Thunder, the 1994 #1 single “Here Comes the Hotstepper” has come up in conversation many times, and every single time, it’s been a real joy to hear Matt stumble over the pronunciation of the artist’s name. That Jamaican reggae singer would be Ini Kamoze, and it was his collaboration with producer Salaam Remi and some irresistible interpolations within the song that helped take it to the top of the charts. The success led to a seven-album deal with Elektra, but we’re left here still waiting for most of those.
