Inside the She Cave: Trailblazers, Innovators, Rule Breakers
Society & Culture
Anita Durst, Founder and Artistic Director of Chashama, details her path and passion about exposing artwork by activating mostly empty retail spaces in New York City and discusses the importance of art everywhere and art for all. For almost three decades, Chashama has played a central role in sustaining New York’s vibrant artistic community and increasing artists’ access to space and exposing art everywhere and for all. Chashama supports artists by partnering with property owners to donate empty retail space, creating studio space to create in addition to artist residencies and free art programs for kids. In addition, their new Storefront Startups program supports small businesses with free pop-up storefronts to restore financial stability, bringing commerce, beauty, and hope back to NYC.
