‘The Faithful Servants’
In the late 1950s, a backing band emerged that had no limit to its potential. Hired and used by Ronnie Hawkins, Sonny Bill Williamson and Bob Dylan - 1 American & 4 Canadians broke out to form their own act and write their own music. Music that would change the sound of American popular music forever.
The Band released their first album in 1968 and their second in 1969, to huge critical acclaim. Those two albums would rubber stamp two moments in modern music that would go on to influence thousands of bands/artists/musicians in America. The birth of Americana and Roots Rock signaled the start of how American writers and composers could twist and mix all of the USA’s most popular genres into one streamlined sound.
Loved and revered by most, but not known to all, The Band had fans in the form of Eric Clapton; who was desperate to join, George Harrison; who stated how impressed he was by their musicianship and camaraderie and Roger Waters; who described one of their albums as “one of the most influential albums in the history of Rock ‘N’ Roll”. Laz & Felipe analyse, dissect and discuss the factors that brought this band to the forefront of American popular music and how their music changed American popular music forever.
