Many US companies were forced out of Venezuela when the oil industry was nationalised in the 1970's. It's also a type of oil which is hard to reach and difficult to refine.
We look at its difficult history, where does the oil it produces now go to and will US Oil companies want to spend the tens of billions of dollars it's thought will be needed to fix Venezuela's oil infrastructure.
