This talk, "๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฎ ๐๐ก ๐ฐ.๐ญ๐ฌ" was given by Sis Sylvia Bay at the invitation of Buddha Dhamma Mandala Society (BDMS) via zoom meeting on 21 July 2020. This is the edited and annotated version.
Though relatively shorter than other suttas, it is in fact, very profound, targeted at the bhikkhus and serious practitioners. In unravelling the sutta, Sis Sylvia explains the four bonds that bind us to samsara and the framework (origin and passing away; gratification; danger; and escape) which Buddha used "to understand as they really are" which requires a high level of practice of mindfulness, reflecting on the nature of the mind and trimming craving at its root, i.e., ignorance.
By using the Four Noble Truths and Dependent Origination pertaining to the five aggregates subject to grasping which are conditionally arising and ceasing, Sis Sylvia explains how in our engagements with the world, by guarding our six sense bases and contact, without ignorance and delusion, one who is detached from unwholesome states can sever the four bonds, be equanimous leading to cessation of craving.
