Polyphenols fall under the category of phytonutrients. Which are plant nutrients that confer health benefits. Polyphenols specifically are food for our microbiota and are involved in housecleaning of potential pathogenic pathobionts. We should really strive for about 1000mg-1500mg of polyphenols in our diet daily as the evidence is stacking up for their health benefits for colon health, brain health, cardiovascular health, and overall inflammation support.
