Title: Madhupindika Sutta MN18 (The Honey Ball)
Speaker: Sylvia Bay
"Madhupindika Sutta MN18" is a favourite amongst scholars because of its depth and complexity. Sylvia first highlights the setting of the sutta where a Sakyan, by the name of Dandapani went deep into the Great Woods to look for the Buddha with a provoking question and describes how Buddha brilliantly disarmed him and left him speechless. Then she unpegs the crux of the sutta by explaining papancasannasankha and how "delighting, welcoming and holding" is problem and how by non-"delighting, welcoming and holding", various underlying tendences (the anusayas) can be uprooted. For the third part, Sylvia explains how papancasannasankha relates to the 5 aggregates of grasping. Finally, which is the most important for the practitioner, with the knowledge, how one should practice in daily life.
