Bhikkhunupassaya Sutta SN 47.10 - This is one of the lesser known suttas on meditation where Ānanda reported to the Buddha on the nun's meditation progress. In sharing this sutta, Sis Sylvia Bay explains how one can achieve samādhi when right mental conditions are present and features of first and second jhānas. At the end she unveiled the cryptic meaning of what Buddha meant when he said at the end: These are the feet of trees, Ānanda, these are empty huts. Meditate, Ānanda, do not be negligent, lest you regret it later. This is our instruction to you.” Understanding Buddha's cryptic message would dispel the notion that meditation refers only to jhānas and why it is essential that in our daily sitting and practice we should focus on the cultivation of the four foundations of mindfulness as well.

Sis Sylvia Bay has dedicated herself to the study and practice of the Buddha's teachings since 1992. She holds a BA (Hons) in Buddhist Studies from the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka, and was a lecturer with her alma mater. She also has a Masters in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced Studies. Since 2001, Sis Sylvia has been a regular speaker on Buddhist doctrines and their practical applications at local and regional Buddhist organisations. In 2013, she published her first book “Between The Lines: An Analytical Appreciation of The Buddha’s Life”. She is now working on another book titled "Towards The Light: the Buddha's Guide to a Heavenly Rebirth".
