Dr. Ferguson interviews Dr. Nicole Nugent, a child psychologist who specializes in the treatment of children who have experienced extreme trauma.
What tools and techniques are used by psychologists to manage trauma in children? How does trauma affect a child's development long term? And how can a therapist provide support that is often superior that of family or friends?
Some people are fully aware of why we behave and feel the way we do, but many are not. Psychologists can help us better understand ourselves, our emotions, and our behavior.
Nicole Nugent, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and is a child clinical psychologist at the Bradley Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital Research Center. Dr. Nugent serves as Director of Resilience and Psychological Services at the Hasbro Pediatric Refugee Clinic.
