Retraining your brain from a lifetime of wrong perceptions not only requires a success routine but “tools” to empower you daily and aid you in keeping your focus. There are many useful tools to help you move from level to level while staying the course.
Altering your neural pathways and ultimately your mindsets from a lifetime of harmful thinking requires cognitive restructuring. The practice of cognitive restructuring can accelerate the process as you learn how to alter your perceptions. It is also a powerful foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a practice often used by counselors to reverse negative tendencies in their patients. Below is a helpful four-step guide to cognitive restructuring.

Step #1: Write a recent occurrence that produced negative thoughts, fear, apprehension, or anxiety for you.
Step #2: Record the negative thoughts you had at the time of the situation or event.
Step #3: Remove yourself from all emotional ties to the event as well as any presuppositions, and then write in a few rational observations.
Step #4: Consider a list of positive responses you can choose to apply based on the rational observation in step #3.
