Despite years of pressure and numerous initiatives for better inclusivity at the top of large corporations, progress is slow and boardrooms remain resistant to diversity. Research shows diverse leadership makes businesses thrive. However, in times of crises, companies tend to overlook the need for representation in the boardroom and instead favour the most traditional perspectives. While not deliberate, that tendency keeps boardrooms very homogeneous.
In this episode, Dr HeeJung Jung and alumnus Chirag Amin discuss the realities of gender and racial representation in corporate leadership. It is critical that boardroom members represent the diversity of society and include women, people of colour, minorities and underrepresented communities. They also argue that diversity should be seen as more than just a trend in hiring practices. Diversity should be approached as a strategy to increase an organisation's performance.
