The foundation will sunset in a couple of years’ time, and the dynamics are much more complicated than one would expect. The MAVA Foundation is a family philanthropic foundation based in Switzerland. They were founded about 25 years ago by Dr Luc Hoffmann, who is the grandson of the founders of Hoffmann-La Roche.
The foundation will be closing and will stop their grant-making after 2022. Over their lifetime, they have granted out more than one billion dollars.
