The Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast
Health:Self-Help
In this podcast I explain negative energy balance (energy deficit) in restrictive eating disorders. I talk about what it actually is, how it is different in a person with an eating disorder compared to a person without an eating disorder, and how if feels.
Energy deficit is important to understand as it helps us figure out why something that feels really good for us can actually be very bad for us. In order to recover, sufferers have to learn to resist the lure of negative energy balance and the soothing aspects of it. While this creates anxiety and uncomfortableness at first, it is an important aspect of recovery.
Understanding the mechanisms behind restrictive eating disorders can help us figure out what we need to do in order to overcome them.
