Jess Phillips is a British Labour Party politician, serving as Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley since the 2015 general election.
Currently Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, Jess was also a candidate for Leader of the Labour Party in the 2020 leadership election; no surprise perhaps, hailing from a ‘politically active’ family and proclaiming her childhood ambition was to become Prime Minister.
Citing it as ‘the single most important job she ever had’, before her career in politics, Jess was employed at Women’s Aid, a charity whose aim is to end domestic violence against women and children, working her way up to become Business Development Manager.
Famed for speaking her mind and an author of two books – ‘Everywoman, One Woman's Truth About Speaking the Truth’ and‘Truth to Power: 7 Ways to Call Time on B.S’ - in response to the murder of her friend Labour MP Jo Cox, in June 2016, Jess stated it "makes me want to fight harder".
