In der Nacht vom 9. zum 10. August 1841 fing ein Raddampfer auf dem nordamerikanischen Eriesee Feuer. Fast alle der gut 300 Passagiere an Bord kamen dabei ums Leben.
Theodor Fontane (1819–1898) hat dieses Ereignis in einer Ballade verarbeitet – hier vorgetragen von Tom von Arx, Sprecher der Zaunkönigsklasse.
