These discourses by Om Swami are on parampara. This is the third part of it.
Om Swami says, that in the science of mantras, a sankalpa(resolution)and diksha has a lot of importance. A sankalpa makes the probability of a person completing a sadhana successfully much more. Whenever, one is able to take and complete smaller sankalpas , the bigger ones will also get completed and it makes one realise that this whole life is also like a sankalp. For, one has to just make a resolution to lead a happy and contented life. A person who is firm on resolutions would have learnt the art of it and nobody can sway them away from their determination towards their resolution.
Om Swami says that there is no limit to madness in this world. But, the energy of this madness can be channelized and it can either be turned towards building spiritual advancement to oneself or doing some good for the society. Or, this madness can be channelized towards harming themselves or others. This is totally an individual and a personal choice. Om Swami says, that it is a huge responsibility for a guru to give a mantra to an individual and getting them connected to the parampara. A mantra received from a guru, if passed to others, will give no benefit to the recipient as well as the giver, as the giver has not gathered any merits firstly by chanting and becoming one with it. Only when someone reaches the sixth or seventh step in diksha can they give the mantra ahead. Till then it cannot be given and this is one of the key rules of the parampara. This is the reason for the seven steps in deeksha. A guru who keeps all the knowledge to himself, and does not give it ahead will lead himself to ruin. Deeksha is only given to a person, who comes with total humility and surrender. Om Swami says that he has spoken about the parampara briefly in these discourses but if god wills then at some point he may write about it in more detail.
