Charlie Morris didn't start making videos until 2015. On a shoestring budget, with camera gear far less powerful than today's cheapest smartphone, he began filming the world around him.
As his skills grew and his reputation spread, Charlie started applying his new hobby toward his passion for environmental and social justice.
His latest project, Salmon Folk, examines the egregious harms perpetrated on the waterways by the commercial salmon farming industry.
We spoke about his journey as a documentarian, his process, the causes that catch his eye, and the ways he tries to tell human stories to change minds, hearts, and ultimate, policy.
From an inside look at the prison system, to the impact of a quarry on a North Carolina forest, to the harms perpetrated on indigenous peoples with a spiritual connection to the salmon that have sustained them and their cultures for millennia, Charlie and his camera and microphones are helping people wake up and decide that the status quo needs to change.
