Today is the US midterm elections, and there's a lot at stake.
Aside from hugely significant policy issues like abortion, healthcare, immigration, criminal justice, and climate remediation, democracy itself is on the ballot.
Yet no matter what happens or who "wins" today (whether we find out tomorrow or days or weeks or months from now), it won't change the fact that our civilization is acting out a history of profound trauma - exploiting humans and nature for short-term greed.
And the violence that we're seeing won't be quelled by the ballot box.
The veil is ripped away, and we can see clearly the crisis brought on by our trajectory of domination and disrespect for the earth and our fellow beings.
In my woods walk today, I grapple with the idea of outcomes. Thanks to new understandings courtesy of Robert Peng, my online Yi Jin Jing teacher, I explore how we can identify and begin to work toward outcomes that are more than just defeating fascism, racism, misogyny, and all other forms of hatred and "othering."
While at the same time doing all we can to stop the spread of hatred, violence, and oppression right now.
May all beings be well and happy.
