Identifying ADHD & Autism Spectrum Disorder - 'Therapy-ish (ft. Ashley Richardson Minnitt)
In this week’s episode of ‘Therapy-ish, we sit down with Ashley Richardson Minnitt, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor providing services at her own practice based in Round Rock, TX, who specializes in working with autistic and neurodivergent teens, young adults and teens going through life transitions, those struggling with chronic stress and anxiety, and more!
This episode is all about the diagnosis and experience of the neurodevelopmental disorders ADHD and Autism. Asha and Ashley talk everything from the variations and subtypes of ADHD, how to receive accommodations for ASD or ADHD as a student, our society's overemphasis on deficits instead of strengths, Autism's existence as a spectrum-defined disorder, and the misdiagnosis of ASD in young girls and children of color.
Therapy-ish was created with the mindset of removing the stigma around mental health and to help bridge the gap from the streets to the office. Our goal is to educate listeners on new ways to go about seeking help, becoming more aware of where we are, discuss therapy in traditional and non-traditional ways with expressing new ways to move forward in the world.
