The Stigma of Seeking Therapy - 'Therapy-ish (ft. Aaron Elam)
In this week’s episode of ‘Therapy-ish, we sit down with Aaron Elam, counseling student intern providing 1-on-1 counseling services at Crave Counseling, at our Round Rock, TX location. Aaron is currently studying at Grand Canyon University, and he is passionate about working with teens and young adults. This episode is all about the negative stigma that exists around mental health therapy and treatment, particularly within the Black community. From the fear of being hospitalized, to the power a client actually has in finding their therapist, to the reconciliation of working/receiving support through an industry built on harming Black bodies, Aaron and Asha cover it all! Therapy-ish was created with the mindset of removing the stigma around mental health and to help bridge the gap from the streets to the office. Our goal is to educate listeners on new ways to go about seeking help, becoming more aware of where we are, discuss therapy in traditional and non-traditional ways with expressing new ways to move forward in the world.
