Roger Talbott had just retired from a long career in ministry, and was finally attending to his own body and spirit.
He had reduced his stressors, joined a gym, and was even thinking of competing in some 5k races when he caught the flu in December 2019.
The symptoms persisted for a long time - around 6 weeks. And then he went back to his workout routine.
And discovered that he had almost nothing in his tank. And it would deplete almost immediately after any exertion, leaving him with fatigue, brain fog, and low mood.
After days of recuperation, Roger would attempt some other activity. Might be running or walking, or even socializing with friends, or sitting at his desk and writing a blog post - no matter, it would tire him out and put him in bed for days.
Eventually, he came to believe that he had been one of the first Americans to catch COVID-19 (the virus didn't officially land there until 2020), and had experienced what would later be given the name of "Long COVID."
In our conversation, we discuss what Long COVID looked and felt like, what it was like to seek out useful information during the early days, and how he eventually took matters into his own hands, with two water fasting stints at True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, California.
We also talk about the psychological and spiritual "lessons" of the affliction, and other strategies Roger used to regain his energy and his life.
Enjoy!
