Veronica Monet returns to the podcast to talk about one of her favorite coaching tools, Internal Family Systems (IFS).
We began with a brief recapitulation of her story, which we covered in detail in an earlier episode ( https://plantyourself.com/556 ). From growing up in a cult, to the sexual abuse she suffered, to the spiritual guidance she received telling her to heal herself and others as a participant in the sex industry.
The central theme of her narrative has been one of healing from shame and the secrecy it engenders. In her words, shame is "where perpetration festers and grows."
The intention for this conversation was to talk about IFS, and how Monet uses it for her own healing and development, and to help her clients.
We defined terms - parts, managers, firefighters, and exiles - and explored how the parts form, what their purpose is, and how we can begin to integrate them into our Selves.
We talked about "updating files" - that is, reinterpreting our experiences in light of our adult agency and understanding so that we are no longer running unhelpful old scripts.
And we spoke about accepting and loving all our parts, even the ones that are polarized and powerless and hateful and judgmental.
Enjoy!
