After listening to a podcast interview with the author of Burn, by Herman Pontzer, I told Josh that my mind was blown and he had to read the book immediately.
A lot of what Pontzer was talking about - weight loss, hunting, endurance, metabolism - are Josh's bread and butter.
And whether Josh knew the science or not, he clearly discovered and implemented protocols that allowed him to lose 230 pounds - and keep it off for almost a decade now. Which puts him in extremely rarified company.
So I wanted Josh's take on the new science of metabolism that Burn shares. Was there information in the book that helped Josh make sense of both his successes and early and ongoing struggles? As a vegan, how does he think about the hunter gatherer lifestyle as an "authentic" evolutionary touchstone? And was he planning on altering his protocols in any way to reflect the "energy constraint model" that Pontzer convincingly argues for?
We covered all those points, and then went deep (as Josh tends to do).
Enjoy the conversation!
