Josh lives in the bayou of Louisiana, southwest of New Orleans. That's the region that took the biggest hit from Hurricane Ida this week. Josh and his family are trying to help their friends, neighbors, and community - many of whom have lost everything, and have no access to food and water, fuel, electricity, or transportation.
I got him on the phone for the first time in two days as he was driving hours out of town to find a gas station that didn't have a mile-long line. We spoke about the situation on the ground, the immediate need, and how you can help.
This isn't any kind of registered charity - no tax deductions here. Just sending cash to Josh, via Venmo or CashApp.

Only do this if you already trust Josh to spend the money more wisely and effectively than a registered charity. He'll keep all receipts, but will not be spending time and energy doing clean accounting for the next few days, while the situation is most grave and he needs to focus exclusively on getting help to people who need it.
He's not doing this alone - Dustin and Kassi, his brother and sister, are also neck-deep in helping others, as is Kassie's husband Derick. Kassi also has a Venmo to which you can contribute, in case you see her social media posts -- they're totally legit.
Thanks for reading, and if you're so moved, for sparing some cash for Josh's community right now.
Love and peace,
Howie
