Christian Petzold

A German film director who has been getting a lot of attention on the art house circuit, Christian Petzold makes psychological thrillers  that also have elements of magical realism. His new film, "Undine," stars Paula Beers as an historian in Berlin who has complicated relationships with two men. In this podcast episode, HCC film professors Marie Westhaver and Mike Giuliano discuss how that realistic contemporary setting also supports more enigmatic interpretations related to a myth about a water sprite capable of taking human form. This intriguing film made, yes, a splash with critics. The second film discussed in this episode could hardly be more different. "Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street" goes through the history of that culturally significant TV show.  True to its subject, this documentary makes it fun to learn about "Sesame Street."
