Aired 10:30am AEST 8.03.22
Supported by: Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimization and Advocacy and The Connection.
Recorded at: 2xx FM98.3 Community Radio.
“News from the Drug War Front”, brought to you by CAHMA, the Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimisation and Advocacy, Canberra’s peer-based drug user organisation. It will focus on International Women’s Day and the impact of prohibition on women. We will draw on the Global Mapping of Harm Reduction Services for Women who Use Drugs developed by the Women & Harm Reduction International Network (WHRIN)
CAHMA will be restarting Overdose Management and Naloxone training in two weeks’ time. The first workshop will be held at the UnitingCare Early Morning Centre in Civic on Tuesday 22nd of March at 2:00PM. Places are limited so to book a place call CAHMA on 6253-3643 and ask to speak with Dave or Damo.
The CAHMA Drop-in centre has re-opened its doors for people who want to drop in. We are still available via phone for consultations so, if possible, this is the best way to engage.
We have a special guest, Louise who will talk about her own experiences and the upcoming Jude Byrne Women’s Support Group for women who have Child &Youth Protection Services (CYPS) involvement. March 5 was a year since Jude passed and her memory will live on also in the International Network of People who Use Drugs (INPUD) with the International Network on Hepatitis C and Substance use (INHSU) Emerging Female Leaders Award. This mentorship program will honour her legacy by bringing on the next generation of female drug user activists.
In the US, the State of the Union address was the first speech by a President to mention harm reduction. The brief reference reenforced the Biden administration’s inclusion of harm reduction in its approach to drug policy as well as its habit of doing so to the minimum possible degree.
The show is co-presented with Marion Watson. Music is played during the show, which is broadcast on 2XX, Canberra’s Community Radio, 98.3 FM. The show can be streamed live through 2XX or heard as audio on demand through the 2XX website. Go to Programs and find “News from the Drug War Front” and you can listen when you wish to.
