43: The Craft + Foster Story: Hope, Healing, Faith + Staying The Course with Founder Melissa Burgess
Melissa Burgess is a US Army Veteran who spent time in Iraq as a medic. She’s also a wife, mother, and Founder of the candle company Craft + Foster. Melissa received a DIY candle kit for her birthday and quickly fell in love with the candlemaking process. In a few short years, this “accidental” candle company grew from a local candle pop-up to a nationally recognized brand featured in Neiman Marcus, GQ, WWD, FabFitFun, The Golden Globes, and amazing independent retailers nationwide. Melissa found that candlemaking gave her a creative and therapeutic outlet while juggling the demands of motherhood and processing an ongoing journey with PTSD.
In this episode, Melissa shares her authentic and inspiring story of finding her way after coming home from war, facing her trauma, and finding faith as a salve for her heartache and fuel to change the world. She shares the Craft + Foster story, how she navigates motherhood and her business, and her vision for changing women's lives in India through her new program - Smells Like Hope. In this beautiful conversation, Jessica and Melissa remind you that your wounds are a birthplace of creation that can heal you and those your life touches, near and far.
