Modern Languages Feature by Barry Hennessy
This programme featured the first of a two-part interview with practising poet and retired primary school teacher and principal, Gabriel Fitzmaurice. Gabriel grew up in Moyvane, Co. Kerry and returned to teach there for over thirty years. He describes how primary school has changed from the time he was a primary school pupil in the 1950s and on what it is like to teach in a rural school in Ireland. He reads his poem, An Apple for the Teacher, from his collection, Really Rotten Rhymes, published by Mercier Press.
Barry's guest, Tanya Flanagan who is National Coordinator, discussed the Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative.
