Daryl O’Connor is Professor of Psychology, University of Leeds whose areas of expertise include: stress and health; stress interventions; cortisol; personality and health; behaviour change and screening behavioural effects of testosterone.
In this episode, we talk about what stress actually is, how it affects our bodies as well as the fight or flight response. Daryl also explains his research into the link between childhood trauma and a faulty stress response and explains how stress impacts on our mental health and its links with suicide. We also talk about all the potential tools we can employ to better counteract the damaging effects of stress and have a more realistic and healthy approach to life’s challenges.
This was a fascinating discussion with a lot of very useful practical tips for us all.
A must listen!
