The European Commission is proposing to create a new standalone EU4Health programme, with a budget of €9.4 billion. It will invest in prevention, crisis preparedness, the procurement of vital medicines and equipment, as well as improving long-term health outcomes.
The programme is all part of the proposed EU’s recovery plan announced by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen yesterday.
The Fianna Fail MEP Barry Andrews says this proposal is badly needed as Europe is too dependent on a small number of non-EU countries for vital medical supplies.
